The speedometer pinion is a mechanical component that needs to be adjusted in older vehicles,
when the tire size is changed.
For mechanical speedometers, calibration is done by physically replacing the speedometer pinion
against a speedometer pinion with more teeth (so that your speedometer reads more slowly)
or fewer teeth (so your speedometer reads faster).
