For a Cherokee to stay reliable, every system has to work together – which takes proper maintenance and the right parts. At our workshop in Gersfeld, Germany we carry out transmission rebuilds, axle repairs and suspension work. For axle problems we also hold used parts and complete axles in stock.

Which axle is in the Cherokee XJ?

From 1989 the XJ mostly runs the Chrysler 8.25 rear axle, alongside the Dana 35; the front axle is the Dana 30. Ring gear diameter and spline count identify each type – the values are in the axle application list above.

Which transmission does the Cherokee XJ have?

Four-cylinder models run the AX5 from 1989 to 2002 and six-cylinder models the AX15; before that the AX4 and BA10/5 were used. Transfer cases are the NP231 and NP242. All ratios are in the transmission and transfer case charts.

Are new parts still available for the Cherokee XJ?

Yes. Many wear and body parts remain available new. Whatever the market no longer supplies, we source as a reproduction part or as an inspected used part from our own teardowns.
